“Study this Book of the Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” – Joshua 1:8 (NLT)
While the Truth is powerful because it’s in the Bible, we need to know that it only becomes effective when active in our spirit. For the Word to become active in your spirit, it must move beyond the written pages and become alive in you. This happens through meditation. It is through meditation that you programme your spirit with the Word, making it operative in your life.
What is meditation? According to the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, meditation means, “to spend time sitting in a silent, calm state, in order to relax completely or for religious purposes.”
There are three vital levels of meditation. The first is rumination, where you ponder, mull over, and digest the Word in your heart. You give it thoughtful attention and consider its meaning deeply. The second level is when you begin to speak or mutter the Word under your breath – quietly speaking the Word. Those around you may not hear what you’re saying, but you’re talking.
The third level is when you “roar” the Word; you shout it! You speak it boldly. At this stage, it does not matter who’s listening, who’s present. You’re no longer concerned about your environment. The Word has taken hold of your spirit. Hallelujah!
Operating at this level is very important because the more you meditate, the more your spirit is conditioned by the Word of God. Your fears melt away, your boldness grows, and your personality is beautified with the glory of God.
Joshua 1:8 says, “Study this Book of Instruction continually…..Only then will you succeed.” Let Christ’s message fill our hearts (Colossians 3:16), and as we keep saturating our spirit with the Word of God, out of that abundance our mouth will speak (Matthew 12:34).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word that builds and conditions my spirit for victory, success, and glory. As I meditate on Your Word, I’m transformed from within. Lord, I thank You for helping me to develop the right attitudes as I live this life. Help me to continue walking in power and dominion, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
